A filter lane is to be considered on the N68 to allow motorists safely access the L2044.

It follows a series of motions by Cllr Ian Lynch (IND) to the West Clare Municipal District. His latest one cited “traffic safety and continuity of flow” as the Kilrush representative urged Clare County Council to appeal to the TII to construct a filter lane on the N68.

He felt such a move would “allow traffic to turn safely on the L2044 reducing the risk of a collision from the traffic travelling towards Kilrush on the N68”.

Senior executive engineer with the transportation department of the Council, John Gannon confirmed that the junction had been identified and would be included in the TII road safety inspection procedure for Co Clare. He said the option would be considered as part of the design process in conjunction with the TII.

Admitting that he was happy with the response, Cllr Lynch outlined, “There are a number of issues with cars stopping going from Ennis to Kilrush and turning towards Kilmihil”. Cllr Joe Garrihy (FG) seconded the proposal.
