Ex Scariff coach, Darragh Egan has been announced as the new Wexford senior hurling manager succeeding Davy Fitzgerald.

Egan was part of Liam Sheedy’s Tipperary management team from October 2018 up until the Premier County’s exit from the All-Ireland SHC in July. Sheedy, himself a former coach of Newmarket-on-Fergus guided Tipp to All-Ireland glory in 2019, having already completed the feat in 2010.

Prior to getting involved with the Tipperary seniors, Darragh was coach to the Scariff intermediate hurlers. They reached the 2018 semi-final under his watch where they lost out to eventual winners Feakle. During Egan’s involvement, Scariff showed considerable improvement with the Mark McKenna managed side sealing their promotion to the senior ranks last year.

RTÉ have reported that the primary school principal is to be announced as the successor to Sixmilebridge’s Davy Fitzgerald on a two year term with the option of a third. The former Tipperary full-forward and goalkeeper had been linked with the vacant role of Tipperary senior hurling manager which was turned down by Liam Cahill.

In Galway, Shane O’Neill has announced he will not be staying on as senior manager. The manager of Na Piarsaigh when they claimed one All-Ireland club title in 2016 and provincial honours in 2015 and 2017 stepped down on Thursday evening.

O’Neill’s father Mike currently resides in Doonaha and was previously involved with O’Callaghans Mills.

Among the names tipped to succeed him as Tribesman boss are the last man to lead Galway to All-Ireland glory Micheál O’Donoghue, Dublin manager Mattie Kenny and Davy Fitzgerald.
