The Ennis ladies’ intermediate foursomes team will take on Kinsale in an All-Ireland quarter-final on this Saturday at 1pm in Gort

The team members are Kitty Morris/Mary and T McMahon; Mary Lenihan and Bridie Hanrahan; Ann and Helen Gallery, Rose Enright and Peg Hanrahan.

The reserves are Anna Marie Darmody, Sinead Hegarty, Mary McMahon and Mary Nagle.

The joint team managers are Brid Cunningham and Della Burns

Meanwhile a number of club matchplay competition concluded recently. In the Henry’s Bistro challenge cup the winner was Helen Gallery while the Pat MacCarthy shoes sponsored Ardagh cup was won by Mary T McMahon.

In the Friday open singles James P. Horgan (22) won with 39 points from Patricia Moroney (18) with 38 points.

East Clare Golf Club:

President Evelyn Skehan’s prize was played for at East Clare on Sunday when there was a big turnout.

In the ladies section the winner was Maria Kennedy (37) with 41 points and she had four to spare over Maureen Clune (35) while Bridget Minogue (30) also with 37 points, was in third spot. Eileen Donnellan won the gross with 20 points and she also won the long drive while the nines were won by Deirdre O’Neill with 19 points and Geraldine Finnegan with 16 points. Jenny Ryan was nearest the pin while the past president’s category was won by Siobhan Shanahan.

The winner of the 9 hole competition was Noreen Nugent (40) with 15 points.

In the Get into golf scramble the winners were Mary Healy, Caroline Kickers and Rachael O’Halloran from Ella, Marie and Orla Crotty.

The president’s prize to the men was won by Brian McCarthy(16) with 41 points and he won by two from Oscar Kolshus (30) with Ben Hynes a point further back in third place. Michael Rochford won the gross with 33 points.

The nines were won by Kieran Kennedy with 20 points and John McNamara with 22 points.

Russell Trow was nearest the pin while the longest drive was won by Ben Hynes.

In the president’s prize to the senior men the winner was John G. Doyle (18) with 41 points from Willie Roche (19) with 38 points and Ger Shortt (19), also with .38 points.

The nines were won by John Duffy with 20 points and John McNamara with 19 points.

Dromoland Golf Club:

Ruairi Price returned 44 points to win the men’s singles stableford competition at Dromoland at the weekend.

He had four to spare over Frank Melody with Niall Cannon in third spot with 39 points. The over 20 handicap category was won by Alan O’Flanagan with 39 points while the g ross was won by, Jason Ryan with 38 points.

In the 9 hole competition the winner was Ronan McCarthy from Adrian Glynn with third spot filled by Alan O’Flanagan and all three scored 19 points.

The winners of the ladies 18 hole fourball competition were Theresa Reddan and Joan Dunne with 42 points. In second place with a similar score were Jean Colleran and Sandra Moylan with Ruth Casey and Maria Nolan in third spot with 39 points.

Mairead Toomey won the ladies 9 hole competition with 18 points

Shannon Golf Club:

President Tony McNamara’s prize to the ladies at Shannon was played for last week when the winner was Margaret Ryan (34) with 70 from Mary Park (41), also with 70. Dympna Hogan (28) was third with 71 followed by Mary Sheehan (20) with 72. Noeleen Neylon (11) won the gross with 82.

The category winners were Hilary Cleim (12) with 74, Brid Walsh (19) with 73, Honor Kinehan (31) with 73 and Mary McGuane (38) with 73.

Kilrush Golf Club:

Brew’s Hardware singles competition at Kilrush at the weekend was won by Brendan Carey (17) from Jason Gallagher (16) with Thomas Coffey (12) in third spot and all three scored 35 points.

Lahinch Golf Club:

The closing date for inclusion in the Kincora cup mixed matchplay competition at Lahinch is Sunday, September 8.
The Kincora Cup is a Mixed Foursomes Matchplay two-part competition consisting of:

(i) A round-robin series which runs from 1st October 1 to December 31
(ii) A matchplay knockout series which runs during March/April 2025.

A draw will take place in mid-September and confirmed entrants will be notified by email. Draws will also be posted in both locker rooms together with all the details of the competition.

Woodstock Golf Club:

The Specsavers Ennis July medal was played for at Woodstock at the weekend when Morgan Lahiffe (9) emerged as the winner with 70.
Tony Nugent (2) won the gross with 75.

Category 1 was won by Rob Cantwell (10) with 72 from Sean Crowe (5) who also had 72.

Ross Kenny (15) with 73 won category 2 from Frank Landy (15) with 74. The category 3 winner was Gerry Hayes (21) with 72 from Neil McCarthy (23) with 73.

The open singles continues this Thursday while the weekend competition will be the Western Joinery August medal.

Gort Golf Club:

John Daly’s President’s prize final took place at Gort on Saturday when All-Ireland hurling medal winner with Galway, Steve Mahon emerged as the winner with 78 points. He won by two from Ray Quinn with Gerry Broderick, also with 76, in third spot.

They were followed by David Daly with 74 and Colman Cooney, also with 74. The gross was won by Gavin Lally with 35 points while the nett was won by Aaron Gilchrist with 47 points.

The category winners were Rob Boyce with 72 points, Marcus Faherty with 70 points and Tom Meaney with 67 points while the past president’s prize was won by Joe Byrne.

The president’s prize to the ladies was won by Teresa Kavanagh with 81 from Olive Mulcair with 79, Siobhan Forde with 71, Ena Furey with 69 and Shauna Burke with 65.

Anne Marie Mulry with 26 points, won the gross while the nett was won by Phil Mulkerins with 38 points.

Adrian Nolan (38) with 44 points won the Friday open singles. The category winners were Laurence O’Loughlin (9) with 33 points, John McGrath (16) from Cahir Park golf club with 37 points and Declan O’Hanlon (40) from Cavan golf club with 37 points.

Friday’s ladies open singles winner was Patricia Reddy (21) with 29 points from Jane Joyce (13) with 28 points with third spot filled by Sinead O’Connor (28), also with 28 points.

Conor Cummins (22) with 38 points won the weekend singles stableford competition while the category winners were Kevin Ruane (12) with 37 points, Shane Moylette (14) with 38 points and John Sinnott (28) with 36 points.

Fanny O’Deas society:

Woodstock was the venue on Saturday for an outing for the Fanny O’Deas society.

The Niall and Brid Coughlan (Coffee Rush) sponsored scramble was won by Alan Jackson, Thomas Monahan, Terence O’Shea and Pat Delap with 96 points and they had one more than, Paddy Corcoran, Liam Hayes, Dermot Custy and Noel O’Shea.

The society’s next outing will be for captain Declan Conway’s prize and this will take place on Friday September 20 at Castlebar. The group will play a scramble the following day in Westport.

Sixmilebridge Golf Society:

Sixmilebridge society captain, Trevor White’s prize was played for in Portumna last week when Mikey Corbett emerged as the winner from Adam Merriman with David Purcell in third spot followed by Ian Mulready.

The front 9 was won by Pat Kearney while Vinny Purcell won the back nine. Nearest the pin and longest drive prizes were won by Adam Merriman while the guest prize went to Robbie Corry.
