The Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul in Ennis is the first in the country to provide the option of a columbarium for internment.

On Saturday next (November 6th), the first internment of ashes will take place at the new columbarium built at the Ennis cathedral. Cremated human remains are interred in a columbarium.

Bishop of the Killaloe Diocese, Fintan Monahan consecrated the columbarium on Thursday which becomes the first in Ireland provide this option for internment.

Local builders Michael Clancy and Michael McInerney installed the columbarium while the facility is provided for churches by Eternum Columbarium. The columbarium in the Cathedral has capacity for 240 urns, while 104 niches have already been reserved.
