DROMOLAND CASTLE is set to be named as the venue for the return of the Women’s Irish Open.

For the first time since 2012, the Women’s Irish Open will be part of the Ladies European Tour schedule when it is held from September 22nd to 25th and will clash with the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship on the LPGA Tour

A venue and prize fund has yet to be confirmed but The Clare Echo has learned that Dromoland Castle in Newmarket-on-Fergus will host the tournament event with efforts ongoing between management at the five star hotel, Sport Ireland officials and Clare TD, Joe Carey (FG) to bring this to fruition.

England’s most accomplished female golfer of modern times, Laura Davies was the winner of the first Women’s Irish Open in 1994 which took place at St Margaret’s. The tournament was played fifteen times over the following nineteen years. Most recent tournaments saw Kileeen Castle in Meath as the venue in 2011 and 2012.

Memorably, Lahinch Golf Club hosted the DDF Irish Open in 2019 in what was regarded as both a roaring success for the tournament but also the county.
