ST JOSEPH’s Doora/Barefield remain an ambitious young team and they’re eager to bounce back in the second round of the TUS Clare SHC.
Oisin O’Brien’s side came from six down at half-time to reduce the deficit to two points by the two thirds mark in their first round tie against Sixmilebridge.
Reflecting on their 1-18 1-12 loss, O’Brien said, “It’s disappointing. I think we gave them a little bit too much respect after they got the goal early on. We had started well but didn’t push on for the rest of the half. I thought we were in the game at times but made a few mistakes which cost us. I think we got it back to two at one stage of the third quarter but missed a few chances and got punished”.
With an average age of twenty in their rearguard, The Parish will bid to put their lessons into practice. “We’ll learn from it and go again. This is a very young team who are ambitious and eager to develop. We missed chances whereas they [Sixmilebridge] were more clinical and that was the difference really”.
He told The Clare Echo, “Look, they are a top team whose goal is to win this out and we just have to learn from this. I mean these are three stalwart clubs in our group [Sixmilebridge, Newmarket-on-Fergus and Crusheen] who have won county titles in the last decade or so. Their aims are to be contesting semi-finals and finals and if they don’t get there, they are disappointed so we have Newmarket next and we have to showing learnings from this.
“Take Sixmilebridge today, they are a seasoned team with probably an average age of 26, 27 or 28 whereas the oldest back that we had this evening was 21. So we think we can made another leap again so we’ll give it our best against Newmarket the next day”.
