Lahinch singer and vocal coach Dora Gola is releasing Dark Sand, a brand-new electronic pop single exploring the power of the earth and its connection to feminine energy.

Arriving in Ireland 13 years ago from Poland, Dora recalls landing on the beach in Lahinch and feeling an instant connection to the pull of the ocean. “Coming from a big city, I had never seen the ocean before. It was a nine-hour drive away. Arriving here and standing on the beach for the very first time, I said to myself, I really want to live here.”

After studying Voice and Dance at the University of Limerick and a subsequent master’s degree in music in Cork, Dora decided to leave her comfortable job and her residence in Limerick and make Lahinch her permanent home.

In February 2020, she set up a singing school in the seaside town called Voice Progress Lahinch. The pandemic has meant that lessons now take place online, on a one-to-one basis. She believes that her strongest asset is that she is living and teaching from experience. Spending three days per week on classes, she now can’t imagine her life without teaching. “Most of what I show people, didn’t come from my education. It comes from what I pick up and practice every day. Sharing what I know is so exciting, and I can’t wait to be back open to the public,” Dora stated.

Having previously released an EP, Dora decided to use the pandemic as a blank canvas to reinvent her image and place in the music industry. Always an enthusiast of both song and dance, her first furore in show business led to a neglect of her love for movement. Going against the grain at the time, she quickly burnt out from a lack of passion and following expertise advice that “just didn’t feel right.” Now, having taken the time to reinvent her image, she believes the genuine and honest embodiment of her art will speak for itself. “In the darkest of times, you can achieve your dreams. Lockdown was the best thing that could have happened to me”.

Dark Sand is the first single that will form part of a yet to be finalised album. She is now writing around five or six completed tracks, that will form the basis of the listening experience. “Dark Sand contains a strong connection to the earth and feminine power. It’s a mix of world music sounds. It’s very earthy, with a lot of weird sounds like wolves, nature and water. I also sing bilingually. Most importantly, I got to reconnect with dance and movement, and it’s become a big part of my image.”

Dark Sand will be available across all streaming platforms including Spotify, iTunes and YouTube from April 2. For more information visit Dora Gola on Facebook or Instagram.
