Crusheen’s senior hurlers continue to impress in the Clare Cup having overcome a in-form Ballyea outfit with weekend wins also recorded by Sixmilebridge, Clonlara and Broadford.

In Division 1B, O’Callaghans Mills put in another strong display and in the process ended St Josephs Doora/Barefield’s unbeaten run, Scariff, Smith O’Briens, Whitegate and Newmarket-on-Fergus also emerged victorious in their respective outings.

Lorcan Fitzpatrick and Seadna Morey scored first half goals as Sixmilebrodge accounted for neighbours Cratloe in this Division 1A Clare cup game at O’Garney Park in Sixmilebridge on Friday evening.

As a result of the goals, the winners held a five point advantage at the interval when the score was 2-8 to 0-9.

Seadna Morey top scored on the evening for the winners, finishing with 1-9 to his credit.

A Shane McGrath pointed free in the final minute sealed a share of the points when Feakle entertained Kilmaley on Saturday evening.

Undefeated Kilmaley remain at the top of the table following this outing. Helped by a goal from Gearoid O’Grady they led by the minimum margin at half time when the score was 1-6 to 0-8.

The sides continued to be evenly matched in the second half but the visitors held a slight advantage after Daire Keane struck for their second goal.

However the home outfit refused to concede and McGrath, not for the first time, landed the leveller.

Clonlara edged a disappointing tie at their own grounds on Saturday. They played with the aid of the breeze in the opening half and led by seven points at the interval.

Defences dominated in the second half as Clonlara hung on for victory helped b a fortunate goal from Bryan McLeish who managed to deflect a high delivery to the net.

Cathal O’Connell again emerged as the team’s top scorer with 0-7 to his credit while Sean Begley, Conor Bourke and Micheál O’Loughlin were also amongst the scorers.

Early dominance helps Crusheen to another victory

Crusheen continued their impressive form when they accounted for Ballyea at the latter’s venue on Saturday afternoon.

The winners led 1-11 to 0-8 at half time and they extended their lead to ten points in the opening ten minutes of the second half pushing the score to 2-13 to 0-9.
In the final twenty minutes Ballyea outscored the visitors 1-9 to 0-5, the goal coming from Mossy Gavin.

Niall Deasy top scored for the home side with 0-10. Crusheen’s goalscorers were Ross Hayes who also contributed six points and Jamie Fitzgibbon was their other goalscorer.

Strong finish gives Broadford a first win

At the end of a lively first half the winners led by two points, 1-14 to 2-9, their goal coming from Diarmuid Moloney. The visitors goals came from David Mescall and Conner Hegarty.

Strong final quarter from O’Callaghans Mills

A strong final quarter in which they outscored their opponents 1-8 to 0-1, steered O’Callaghans Mills to this victory over St Josephs Doora/Barefield in division 1 B of the Clare cup at Gurteen on Friday.

St. Josephs started well and led 0-10 to 1-5 five minutes from the end of the first half. The visitors finished the half strongly and helped by a goal from Sean Cotter they led by the minimum margin at half time when the score was 1-8 to 0-10.

The Mills hit for the opening three points of the second half but the home side fought back to within a point as the mid point of the half approached.

From here to the finish O’Callaghans Mills held the upperhand and picked off some great scores with Colin Crehan scoring the goal while Cathal Lenihan, Gary Cooney and Jacob Loughnane chipped in with some good points.

Burke’s goals vital for Whitegate

A goal in each half from Paddy Burke helped Whitegate to this win over Wolfe Tones on Friday evening. Burke’s first came in the opening quarter and it helped them to a two point lead, 1-3 to 0-4 after the first quarter. They went on to be five points up at half time when the score was 1-10 to 0-8.

Wolfe Tones battled back strongly in the second half and they were just a point adrift as the full time whistle approached when Burke struck for his second goal which scored victory for the East Clare men.

Danny Hynes top scored for the winners with 0-11, five of which came from play while Thomas Holland with three, Andrew Fahey, Conor McDermott and Paddy Burke also landed points.

Nine players shared in the scoring as Smith O’Briens continued their impressive form with this victory over Eire Og at the Ennis club’s venue on Saturday afternoon.

Despite a strong performance from midfielder Darren O’Brien the home side were unable to spot the visitors from recording another win on a day when substitute John Cusack struck for their goal and he also chipped in with three points.

Tulla held the upperhand for long periods of the first half in this Division IB tie played at Newmarket. They were forced to re-arrange their team after just two minutes when Shane Hunt had to leave the action due to injury.

They raced into an early 0-4 to 0-1 lead and continued to hold the edge in the opening half which ended with the East Clare men ahead by six points, 0-14 to 0-8 after they had played with the assistance of the wind. Harty cup winner Sean Withycombe was in fine form from placed balls.

Early in the second half Eoin Guilfoyle got in for the home side’s opening goal and this helped them to level the game at 1-12 to 0-15.

Having opened a three point lead they doubled their advantage when substitute Shane Lynch struck for their second goal which helped them to seal victory despite a successive underwhelming display.
