Clare County Council have began the process of taking in one Liscannor road and abandoning an equivalent in Lisdoonvarna.

Cathaoirleach of the West Clare Municipal District, Cllr Joe Garrihy (FG) asked Clare County Council to take in charge the road at Dereen in Liscannor and also to “consider the abandonment” of the public road L50561 at Ballyinsheen in Lisdoonvarna.

Senior executive engineer, Enda MacNamara confirmed both processes would commence in accordance with section 11 and section 12 respectively of the Roads Act 1993.

The abandonment of a public road shall mean that the road authority will no longer have responsibility for the maintenance of the abandoned road, however, the abandonment of the road does not affect the public right of way over the road.

Garrihy’s proposals were seconded by Cllr Bill Chambers (FF) and Cllr Shane Talty (FF).
