NEGOTIATIONS are ongoing between Clare County Council and Coillte regarding “extremely dangerous” overhanging trees in East Clare.

Delivery of a programme to “remove dangerous over hanging trees” on the Gort to Tulla Rd was sought by Cllr Pat Hayes (FF) at a recent meeting of the Killaloe Municipal District. “Sections of this are very dangerous at present as heavy goods vehicles have to remain in the centre of the road to avoid these trees,” he highlighted.

Meetings are to be held with the local authority and Coillte on the matter, senior executive engineer Niamh Madden confirmed. “The Killaloe Municipal District has already been liaising with Coillte in relation to this matter. A meeting with Coillte representatives and the Killaloe Municipal District has been scheduled so as to ensure that any trees that may pose a safety hazard along this section of road are removed”.

Speaking at the meeting, Cllr Hayes warned that “extremely dangerous overhanging trees” on the route were posing problems. “It is a main artery road with a lot of deliveries going to Beckman Coulter and the people of East Clare use this road, there are a number of forestry lorries on this road”. His proposal was seconded by Cllr Tony O’Brien (FF).
