CLOONEY/QUIN clubman Brian Fitzpatrick is the only nominee for the vacant role of Clare GAA’s Treasurer.

Rebecca Sexton’s resignation as Treasurer resulted in Clare GAA inviting clubs to submit nominations to fill the role. The Quilty woman had been the first female Treasurer of Clare GAA.

By the close of business on Wednesday evening, Brian Fitzpatrick was the only nominee and is set to be elected to the post at Tuesday’s meeting of the County Board.

Currently working as a commercial Sales Director of BoComm Leasing, a global aircraft leasing company, he has been in this role since May 2015. He spent eight years as financial controller of GECAS in Shannon and has previously been a consultant to Avolon and the VP of Commercial with Aldus Aviation.

A chartered accountant, Brian trained with Deloitte in Limerick.

Brian Fitzpatrick.

He is a native of Dooradoyle in Co Limerick and played both hurling and football with Mungret St Paul’s while also lining out for the Limerick minor footballers. His father, Martin Fitzpatrick represented Mayo’s senior footballers in the 1960s.

Within the Clooney/Quin club, Brian is the current juvenile secretary and also sits on the Finance Development committee which is responsible for the redevelopment project including the construction of a new clubhouse, dressing room and gym facilities. He has also assisted as a coach with hurling and football teams for Clooney/Quin at underage level.

Chairman of Clare GAA, Kieran Keating told The Clare Echo, “We’re a business turning over in excess of €3m, it is closer to €4m if you include our fundraising stuff, it takes competence to properly manage the incomes and outgoings for a business like Clare GAA. We will be hiring extra Games Development Officers which is extra staff coming on board and we are increasing our budgets on that side, we have to fundraise and raise money for the current spending accordingly. It is a business job we’ll say but that doesn’t mean the Treasurer needs to be an accountant”.

Clare GAA’s current big fundraiser for 2023 is Win A House in Ennis, tickets for which can be obtained by visiting winahouseinennis.com.

Cooraclare’s Sean Chambers will continue as Assistant Treasurer of Clare GAA.
