COUNTY CHAMPIONS Clonlara have picked up their first win of the FutureTicketing Clare Cup while a second victory has been achieved by Newmarket-on-Fergus.

Clonlara produced a strong performance to overcome Kilmaley on Monday evening while Éanna Crimmins’ goal proved decisive as Newmarket-on-Fergus accounted for neighbours Sixmilebridge.

An evenly contested first ten minutes ended with Clonlara a point in front in this Division 1A Clare Cup tie played at Clarecastle astro on Monday night.

Clonlara stepped up a gear and opened a five point lead in the next ten minutes and by the time the half time whistle sounded they had extended their lead to nine points, 1-13 to 0-7. Colm O’Meara scored the game’s only goal.

Clonlara continued to hold the upperhand in the second half and with ten minutes remaining they had extended their lead to twelve points with the score at 1-19 to 0-10.

At the final whistle the margin between the teams was thirteen points, Clonlara claiming their first victory of the campaign leaving Kilmaley pointless after two outings.

Another win for Newmarket-on-Fergus

Helped by a goal from Éanna Crimmins, Newmarket-on-Fergus led by four points at half time when the score was 1-7 to 0-6 in this Clare Cup division 1 A clash with their neighbours Sixmilebridge at O’Garney Park on Tuesday night.

The goal proved to be a crucial score in this tie and helped the visitors to maintain the lead throughout the second half

Peter Power top scored for the winners contributing 0-11 as they scored their second successive win in this season’s campaign.

Alex Morey was the home side’s top scorer with 0-7 to his credit, six coming from placed balls. The Bridge were without their county contingent along with Shane Golden.

In round three, Newmarket-on-Fergus will have Inagh/Kilbamona as visitors while Sixmilebridge will be away to Scariff.
