CLARE’S MUNSTER MINOR hurling championship tie against Waterford has been postponed.

Munster GAA officials made the call at the eleventh hour after referee Peter Carroll completed a pitch inspection at Fraher Field in Dungarvan which found sections to be “waterlogged”.

Confirmation that the tie was to be called off was issued by the Munster Council twelve minutes before the fixture was due to commence. Two inspections had been completed over half an hour before the scheduled 7pm start before a decision was reached.

Brian O’Connell’s charges have one win and one defeat from two outings, having overcame Tipperary in the opening round before failing to produce the same level of performance when they lost to Limerick.

Both panels had completed a warm up on the pitch before the decision was reached. No details on a refixture have been announced. The same venue is also set to host the meeting of Clare and Waterford in the Munster U20 hurling championship on Wednesday evening.

Between 300 to 400 Clare supporters had made the journey to Waterford for the third round clash.

Meanwhile, a mid-level orange wind warning has been issued for West Clare from 2am to 5am, a yellow warning is in place for the remainder of Clare during that period. Storm force winds to hit beyond are 110km/h have been forecast.
