THE Corofin Agriculture Show takes place on Saturday (July 22), with free entry for children who will be entertained with music, facepainting, animals and more.

This is the 72nd year of the longest running show in Clare with the traditional to the quirky expected to entertain thousands of revellers in Corofin.

Prizes will be on offer for a dog show, horses, cattle, sheep, dogs, donkeys, show jumping, amongst other categories including turf, hay, best flowers, vegetables, jams, baking – and best hens, which is sure to ruffle a few feathers.

There will also be competitions for baking, art (painted wellies and decorated boiled eggs), photography, and numerous events to keep the children entertained.

A spokesperson for the Show said that entries have been flying in this year, “Between the animals and the hall, it’s going to be so busy. Everyone arrives at 9am and the hall closes at 10am for judging”.

The Corofin Agriculture Show committee will welcome families from across the county and beyond with face painting, kids games, a clown, and the animal road (which allows people to get close and personal with an array of animals) show all set to prove a hit with the youngsters.

A spokesperson added, “We’re also having a tug-of-war, we’re having a sheaf throwing competition, there’s going to be vintage cars on site, we’re having our vintage tea rooms which are always a big hit where everything is really old style and you can get your coffee and tea with cakes, scones and buns”.

There will also be live music at the Show this year with any money collected going to the Burren Animal Rescue. “Everyone is welcome and we’ll have stands selling toys, clothes, food and more.”

A spokesperson for the Show thanked all their sponsors for their continued support, adding that a launch night takes place tomorrow at 8pm in the Corofin Hall which is open to the public.

Show entries will be accepted until Friday, July 14 and entries can be made at www.itsplainsailing.com. Admission for children is free, adults cost €10. For more information find Corofin North Clare Agricultural Show Ltd on Facebook.
