There was a lot of Clare interest in last Sunday’s Meath senior football final between Ratoath and Gael Colmcille from Kells.

Holders Rathoath retained the title, thanks to a goal n the seventh minute of added time. The lead had changed hands throughout a lively contest which the Kells outfit looked to have won when they got through for a goal in the closing stages of normal time.

Rathoath refused to throw in the towel and they were rewarded with a goal which proved decisive. This led to Brian McMahon accepting the trophy on behalf of the team. Brian is the son of John who played his club football with his native Coolmeen. He has been a regular on the Meath senior panel for the past few years.

Rathoath corner forward Jack Flynn also has strong Clare connections as his mother is Olive McInerney from Sixmilebridge. Both Brian and Jack were on the scoresheet for Rathoath in Sunday’s final.
