NEWMARKET CELTIC had a comfortable 3-0 win over Shannon Town to advance in the FAI Junior Cup while Avenue Utd were full value for their win to keep their title challenge alive in the Maloney Garden Machinery Premier Division, 

Weather conditions impacted on proceedings across the Clare District Soccer League with First Division games involving Shannon Olympic vs Bridge Utd called off along with the Second Division meeting of Kildysart vs Fern Celtic and the Third Division contest of Shannon Town C vs Fern B.

Newmarket Celtic dominated this contest from the off to progress to the fourth round, they were eliminated in their opening encounter of this competition last season.

With thirty eight minutes on the clock, the hosts took the lead with an excellent free kick from Harvey Cullinan, his addition has been a huge plus to Paddy Purcell’s charges this season.

Fresh from representing his country in the UEFA Regions Cup, Eoin Hayes netted on the double in the second half to see them comfortably past their neighbours.

Avenue Utd continue to keep the pressure on leaders Newmarket Celtic in the Premier Division and made a statement with a convincing 8-1 win against Tulla Utd.

Avenue went in front on two minutes when Mark Roche got on the end of a Dylan Casey free kick and finished well. They doubled the lead with thirty minutes played when Roche headed home from a Stephen Jordan cross.

It was 3-0 Avenue on 34 minutes when Gary Roche scored direct from a corner kick.

Mark Roche completed his hat-trick on 55 minutes when he saw Éanna Culloo off his line and finished well with a shot from outside the box.

Callum Barrett made it 5-0 on 61 minutes after a good run down the left and finished well from just inside the box.

Stephen Jordan finished well with a powerful shot on 66 minutes after getting put through by Eoghan Thynne.

Barrett scored the goal of the day on 75 minutes with a great finish to the top right corner from the edge of the box.

Tulla pulled a goal back on 77 minutes after a good passing move and finish from just inside the box.

Dylan Barry finished off the scoring for Avenue on 85 minutes after heading home a corner from Eoghan Thynne.
