Beaten finalists in 2020, Corofin are one step away from regaining senior status following their comfortable win over O’Currys in the semi-final of the intermediate football championship.

Standing between them and the title are Kildysart who have been knocking on the door for this title on a number of occasions in recent years.

Corofn lined out without their captain Cilléin Mullins because of his involvement with his native Crusheen in an important senior relegation game on Bank holiday Monday.

On the plus side they had Jamie Malone fit to start a game for the club for the first time this season and he lined out at centre back with Damian O’Loughlin moving from there to fill Mullins’ position at full back.

A goal from midfielder Kevin Keane in the opening half gave the North Clare side a grip on the tie and they held a six point advantage at half time when the score was 1-5 to 0-2.

While substitute Michael O’Shea goaled for the West Clare men in the second half, Corofin held the upperhand and they added further goals from the Cahill brothers, Gearoid and Diarmuid as they sealed a comfortable victory to qualify for the decider for a second year in a row.

Diarmuid Cahill finished the tie as the game’s top scorer with 1-4 to his credit, a point more than his brother Gearoid who contributed 1-3.

Team captain Thomas Clancy top scored for O’Curry’s with 0-4 on a day when their chances weren’t helped by injuries to a few key players .
