It’s been a busy week of competitions at Kilrush resulting in some very good scores across ladies and men’s events.

In the Buggles Bar men’s competition Dominic Enright (11) won with 41 points from David Keane (9) with 39 points and Michael Meehan (12) also with 39 points.

The category winners were Geremiah Brennan (14) Andrew Egan (15) and Jason Hanrahan, Doonbeg Links (22) each with 38 points.

The Ennis electrical men’s singles was won by Jim Young Snr (9) with 40 points from Dominic Enright (9) with a similar score. Sean Nagle (11) was a point back in third spot.

The category winners were Joe Daly (11) with 35 points, Seamus O’Doherty (15) with 38 points and Tom Cleary (21) with 37 points.

Mary Young (24) with 36 points won the Wild Atlantic Opticians ladies singles from Margaret Donnelly (20) with 35 points and Mary O’Sullivan (28) with 32 points.

The category winners were Mary Lyons (20) with 30 points, Agnes Shannon (24 with31 points and Mary Downes (32) with 24 points. The 12 hole winner was Marie Rogers 22 points.

The Hylands Burren Hotel mixed scotch foursomes winners were Nevan Prendeville and Anne Coen with 60 from Thomas Coffey and Muriel Kiely with a similar score. Anne Gallagher and Tom Clancy were third with 61 while the gross was won by Jim Young Snr and Mary Bolton with 75.

The AON Physiotherapy singles was won by Martin P Brennan (18) with 38 points from Derek Garvey (10) with 37 and Jim Kelly (19) with 36.

The Central Sports v par singles was won by Matthew Dillon (19) with 5 up from Bill O’Reilly (18) with a similar score with third spot filled by John Oliver Keane (13) with 4 up.

The category winners were David Abbott (14) with 2 up, Pat Murtagh (18) level and Colm Murphy (19) with 3 up.

Aideen and Aine help Ireland to victory:

Aideen Walsh and Áine Donegan represented Ireland in the Home Internationals at Mulcair Links, Scotland,. Playing against the host nation they won the foursomes match against Lorna Mc Clymont and Jenifer Sexton 4/3.

In the singles competition in the afternoon, Aideen halved her match with Jenifer Sexton but unfortunately, Aine lost to Lorna Mc Clymont, 2/1.

Overall the pair who at both members in Woodstock and Lahinch, helped Ireland to win the event.

Ennis Golf Club:

The TempleGate hotel sponsored Gaiety Cup 18 hole foursomes at Ennis was won by Patricia Moroney and Anne O’Loughlin (19) with 44 points from Carmel Cummins and Geraldine O’Mahoney (41) with 42 points and they were one ahead of third placed Peg and Bridie Hanrahan (19) with 41 points.

In the 9 hole stableford competition the overall winner was Mary McGrath Fahy (28) with 24 points.

The division 1 winner was Aideen Considine (12) with 19 points. Division 2 was shared by Mary Woulfe (15) and Mary Walshe (18) with 17 points each. Division 3 was won by Mary Curley (28) with 22 points.

Dromoland Golf Club:

John O’Neill (19) won the men’s 18 hole v par competition at Dromoland at the weekend with a score of 3 up.

Cathal Nolan (8) with a similar score was second one ahead of Brian Maloney (15).

The gross was won by Enda Heneghan (1) with 1 up while Daniel Lennon (35) won the category for over 20 handicappers with a level score.

Last week’s 9 hole competition was won by Cathal Nolan with 20 points from Stephen Bergin with 19 and Paul English, also with 19.

In the AIB sponsored ladies 18 hole stableford competition the winner was Niamh McDermott with 36 points from Sandra Moylan with a similar score with Ann Nix in third spot, also with 36 points.

The ladies 9 hole competition was won by Siobhan Dyar with 19 points from Anne McMahon, also with 19 and Mary O’Donnell O’Brien with 18.

Shannon Golf Club:

Laura O’Brien (9) with 40 points won the ladies 18 hole stableford competition at Shannon from Margaret Ryan (35) with 38 points. The gross was won by Michelle Pyke (7) with 29 points.

Woodstock Golf Club:

Winners of the weekend fourball betterball at Woodstock were Frank McEnery (18) and John Dormer (26) with 52 points. They won by four from Joe Keane (9) and Rory O’Dea (20) with Ray Keogh (4) and Kieran Quinn(13) a point further back in third spot.

The open singles continues this Thursday while the weekend competition will be the Michael Cullinan memorial cup, a golfer of the year event.

Meanwhile Woodstock’s mixed fourball team won the West area final at the weekend when they defeated Tralee. The team is managed by Eilis and Tony Neville.

East Clare Golf Club:

Last week’s ladies open team of three at East Clare was won by Siobhan Shanahan, Catherine Minogue and Margaret Hoey with 66 points.

The ladies 18 hole stableford competition was won by Loretto O’Donnell (21) with 46 points from Siobhan Shanahan (16) with 42 and
3rd: Margaret Hoey (39) with 41. Eileen Donnellan (14) won the gross with 41 points.

Winners of the ladies Wednesday competition were Maureen Clune, Joan Kinsella, Connie McKenna and Mary Hogan from Brid Hayes, Mary Jo. Minogue and Liz McMahon with third spot filled by Brid Gurnett, Mary Collins and Pauline Nugent.

In the senior men’s competition last week the winners were Tom Larkin and Nick Ryan from Pat McNamara and Chris Davi with third spot filled by Martin Crotty and Paddy O Brien.

Lahinch Golf Club:

On this Friday and Saturday, John Madden’s President’s prize will be played for on the old course while the President’s prize to the senior Men takes place on the Castle course on Saturday between 12pm and 2pm.

On Saturday the presentation of prizes for the President’s prize along with the following competitions will take place in the clubhouse, from 9:00pm:

Ladies’ Club: Dunally Cups (Ann Connaire & Marie O’Connor); Nancy Connole Trophy (Mary Gibson); Heskin Trophy (winner TBD); Eileen Murphy Foursomes (winner TBD) and Lady Harley Cup (winner TBD).
Men’s Club: Munster Cups (Paul Cagney & Alan O’Brien); Arnott Cup (winner TBD) Bogberry Cup (winner TBD), Mixed Foursomes: Moy Cup (winner TBD).

Next week Lahinch Junior Girls head for Warrenpoint GC in Co. Down to compete in the All-Ireland finals. The girls will tee off in the All-Ireland final on Wednesday. Managers Aédin McCarthy and Maura Falvey and their team are wished every success.

Fanny O’Deas society:

Ennis was the venue for the latest outing for members of Fanny O’Deas golf society and there was a big turnout for the Liam Hayes sponsored event.

All-Ireland community games pitch and putt champion Brian Conway continued his recent winning streak with victory with an impressive 37 points winning by one from Tim Shanahan with Gerry Lernihan, also with 36 points third and Padd Corcoran in fourth spot on 35 points. Leroy Crowe won the gross with 31 points. The next outing will be on Saturday August 24 to Woodstock at 10am.
