TWO BODIES have been recovered the water in different parts of Co Clare today.

Sixteen days after a search began for a man who was seen entering the water of the River Fergus over a fortnight ago, a body has been recovered.

Clare Civil Defence volunteers had searched the River Fergus daily since the alarm was sounded on November 10th. They are believed to have made the discovery, shortly after 1:30pm on Saturday.

In a multi-agency operation, Rescue 115 the Shannon-based Irish Coast Guard helicopter, Clare County Fire and Rescue Service, Clare Civil Defence, the Doolin Coast Guard, the National Ambulance Service and Gardaí had been involved in the search.

Meanwhile in Newmarket-on-Fergus, the body of a local man was discovered in a stream running through the village. He was removed from the water after 2pm on Saturday afternoon.

The Clare Echo understands that the man had been out with individuals known to him before he ended up in the water.

Post-mortems on both bodies are to be undertaken at University Hospital Limerick.
