*Veteran Paraic Aherne kicked the winning score as Doonbeg defeated Éire Óg. 

Doonbeg and St Breckans share top spot in the Cusack Cup, both sides are unbeaten in two games with county champions Éire Óg and Kilmurry Ibrickane yet to register a win.

In the Garry Cup, O’Currys and Corofin are victorious in their two outings to date leaving them in pole position for promotion in the very early stages. The meeting of Cooraclare and St Josephs Doora/Barefield was postponed while Kilmihil and Shannon Gaels fell to successive defeats.

Paraic Ahearne’s point proved to be the winning score as Doonbeg accounted for Éire Óg in round two of the Cusack Cup.

The game was played at Kilrush on Thursday night after the teams agreed to bring the tie forward by two days.

The Ennis outfit started well and raced into a three point lead, 0-4 to 0-1. Doonbeg then got a grip on the tie and they landed six points on their way to a half time lead on a score of 0-7 to 0-6.

The sides continued to trade scores in the second period while the goals came from the respective full forward line players, Darragh Burns for the winners and Aidan McElwee.

With a share of the spoils looking likely, experienced Paraic Aherne popped up with the winner for the magpies.

A strong first half showing which saw them open a ten point lead by half time laid the foundations for this victory for Kildysart over Ennistymon in round two of the Cusack cup at Kildysart on Saturday.

Full forward Diarmuid O’Donnell top scored with 2-5 to his credit and the other goalscorer for the winners was Luke McGrath.

Seamus Casey and Jamie Evans each contributed 0-2 while Mikey Donnellan was the other point scorer.

The visitor’s goal came from Niall Canavan and point scorers for Ennistymon were Cathal McConigley, Darren McNamara, Danny Rouine and Keelan Guyler while goalscorer Canavan also contributed three points.

Goals from Podge McMahon (2), Ryan Jennings and Shane Brennan gave Clondegad the upperhand in this clash with title holders St. Josephs Miltown at Ballynacally on Saturday.

The winners who had tasted defeat in their opening game, showed the greater urgency at the start and this led to the creation of a number of scoring opportunities. They led 4-3 to 0-6 at the interval.

For their part Miltown will be disappointed with some of their defending on the day while in the second half they failed to convert some good scoring opportunities.

Leading by a point at half time having played with the aid of the wind, St. Breckans took control in the second half to make it two wins from two in this season’s Cusack Cup when they accounted for Kilmurry Ibrickane at Lisdoonvarna on Saturday evening.

Centre forward Cathal Guerin scored both goals for the winners on a day when full forward Aiden Davidson kicked six points with Jamie Stack chipping in with three.

A strong second half showing proved decisive for Lissycasey as they overcame neighbours Kilmihil in this Garry Cup tie at Kilmihil on Thursday evening.

The home side enjoyed the better of the opening half exchanges and deserved their half time lead of two points, 0-8 to 0-6, Martin O’Leary having accounted for five of those scores.

The visitors made a bright start to the second half with three points in the opening five minutes. Kilmihil levelled at 0-9 each before two Conor Finnucane efforts put Lissycasey into a lead they held to the finish.

The Finnucane brothers led the way for the winners accounting for 0-10 of the team’s total while Martin O’Leary was Kilmihil’s top scorer with 0-7.

Damian Ryan converted an injury time penalty to earn Corofin victory over Shannon Gaels in this Division 2 football league tie at Labasheeda on Saturday.

Leading on a score of 2-7 to 1-8 three minutes into injury time, the home side looked set to collect their first points of the campaign.

A foul on Kevin Keane who had scored his side’s first half goal; resulted in a penalty for the visitors and Corofin enjoyed the better of the first half exchanges and they held a seven point lead at half time when the score was 1-7 to 0-3, all three of the Gaels points having come from Barry Crehan.

Shannon Gaels started the second half well and they struck for goals from Crehan and Ronan Davis in quick succession to level the tie before pushing ahead.
