Cratloe

LACK OF lighting on the slipway of the M18 in Cratloe has been questioned by elected representatives.

Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) have been asked to explain why both slipways of the M18 at the Cratloe junction are without adequate lighting.

Installation of the lights was requested by Cllr John Crowe (FG) at a recent meeting of the Shannon Municipal District. “When you turn off from motorway, the slipway is exceptionally dark, coming off the motorway in Ennis it is all lit up and makes it much safer. I can’t understand why it hasn’t been done for the Cratloe slipway when it is for all the others,” he commented.

Senior executive engineer, Tom Mellett confirmed that the proposal would be forwarded to TII. “These slip roads are part of the national road infrastructure and are operated and maintained by the motorway maintenance and renewals contract operator).

Cllr PJ Ryan (IND) agreed with the observations of his fellow councillor, “A lot of the other slip roads coming off M18 and N19 are lit up”. He continued, “It would certainly improve the lot of the people using it if the section of road was lit up. The TII should be pushed to try get them to facilitate the residents of the area”.
