Aideen Walsh who has been selected to represent Ireland at the European Nations Championship hosted by Real Club de Golf Sotogrande, Spain between March 30th and April 2nd.

Aideen is a member of both Woodstock and Lahinch clubs and she has represented both with distinction in recent seasons

This is the first time in the tournament’s history that Ireland will be represented by both a men’s and women’s team.

Woodstock Golf Club:

In the Spring league modified scramble at Woodstock at the weekend the winners were Kevin Toner and Matt O’Brien with 51 points followed by Kieran Quinn and Pat McMahon with a similar score. In third spot, a point behind were Ray Casey and Frank McEnery followed by Alan Markham and Joe McInerney with 48 points.

Kieran Quinn, Ray Grogan, Pat O’Brien and Pat McMahon lead at this stage with 226.6 from Ray, Eddie and Stephen Casey and Frank McEnery with 218.8 with third spot filled by Kevin Toner, Seosamh O’Riordailn, Matttie O’Brien and tom O’Donoghue with 217.

There will be no Spring League this week due to the Costello Cup between Ennis and Woodstock taking place in Ennis and the course being hollow tined.

In the modified fourball for club members the winners were Tony Neville and Henry Butler with 49 points

The Stand with Ukraine team of 4 scramble winners were Joe Green, Michael Foley, Peter Cosgrove and Ger Ward with 53.4 nett from Paddy Vaughan, Mike Liddy, Cian and Briain Dillon with a similar score.

The winners in the ladies section were Chaye Kelly, Fran Feighery, Mary Howard and Mary Morgan with 60.4 nett. The event raised €2,400 which will be be passed on through the Ennis Lions club. The prizes for the competition were sponsored by the men’s committee.

The Spring League will resume on the weekend of April 2 and 3. This will be the final round before the 8 teams qualify for the knockout matchplay section. The format will be a team of four with two scores to count at each hole.

There will be a similar competition for club members not taking part in the league.
This week’s seniors scramble was won by Eugene Conroy, Brendan Arthur and Sean Howard with 48 points.

Woodstock have been drawn to play against Dromoland in the first round of the Jimmy Bruen shield. The match will be held in Woodstock and has to be played by Sunday May 8.

Members who wish to trial for the Jimmy Bruen team can contact the team managers Seamus Kelly or Liam O’Connor below by Thursday March 31.

Kilrush Golf Club:

The Spring singles at Kilrush on Sunday was won by Matthew Dillon (22) from John K. Ryan (10) with third spot filled by Pat Mulcahy (13). All three returned scores of 28 points.

The winners of the St. Patrick’s Day mixed scramble were Gearoid Williams, Pat J Shannon, Leroy Crowe and Loretta Maher with 35 points from Paddy Coghlan, Loretta Browne, Kathleen Murphy and Roy Capon who had a similar score.

Clarecastle Golf Society:

At a recently well attended AGM of Clarecastle golf society in Powers the following committee officers were elected for the 2022 golfing year – Liam Barry (Captain), Gerry Mc Mahon (President), Frank Barry (Secretary), Pat Healy (Treasurer), Mike Foley (PRO) and Bernard Hanrahan (Assistant. PRO).

Peter Cosgrove was the winner of the society’s first outing held at Nenagh on Saturday last. Ollie McNamara was second, Don Ryan third and Noel Connellan fourth. The nines’ were won by Seamus Murtagh and Padraig Larkin. The next outing is to Gort on Saturday, April 16.
